5929 - that's the number of hours our preschoolers and school age children read this summer. Jean and I presented 90 programs to an audience of 847 Randolph County children. We enjoyed"making a splash" as we read books about various water animals, activities, and water play. One of the centers I visited became very excited. We were reading about water which reminded them it would be a good day for water play, which reminded them their bathing suits were in their cubbies, which reminded them to tell their teacher they needed to go outside and get wet. Sort of sounds like, If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, doesn't it. I told the teacher I was there to see that the children had a good time. I later learned they did indeed get to have water play. My job was done!
